World’s Highest Polo Tournament
Ever since 1936, this lively event has taken place attracting tourists and fans of equestrian sports in equal numbers. Each July this polo festival takes place on the Shandur Pass, between Gilgit and Chitral, due to the high elevation it is known as the ” World’s Highest Polo Tournament”.
Chitral Festival
On hold for over 25 years, this week-long festival is now back to highlight regional crafts and competitive sports such as archery and wrestling. Visitors can also expect rock climbing, swimming, sitar music as well as crafts, dance, drama and poetry.
Kalash Festivals
Kalash Valley consists of Rumbur Valley, Bunboret Valley and Birir Valley in Chitral, near Nuristan in Afghanistan. Kalash is the home of Kalash (wearers of the black rose), a primitive pagan tribe. The Kalash is an ancient tribe and have a unique religious and cultural heritage.
